KUALA LUMPUR -  Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will contest the highest number of seats under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner in the upcoming Johor state election.

PN Election Director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor confirmed that the decision was finalised during a seat allocation meeting involving all component parties within the coalition.

However, he declined to elaborate on the exact number of State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats the coalition would contest overall.

"Bersatu will take the most seats. The lists brought forward were based on each party’s confidence. From there, we looked at and balanced various weightage factors," Sanusi said. "These factors include political machinery, voter demographic, the potential candidates' experience, incumbency, and prior election experience."

He spoke to reporters after chairing the PN seat negotiations at the PAS Headquarters here on Wednesday.

Sanusi’s remarks follow a statement on Tuesday by PN Information Chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who noted that the coalition had yet to finalise its seat distribution due to overlapping claims between component parties. Annuar had stated that while the initial round of talks resolved the majority of seats, several overlapping areas required further discussion.

Elaborating on the resolution, Sanusi, who is also a PAS Vice-President, confirmed that all component party candidates will contest under the unified PN logo.

He added that Wednesday's meeting successfully resolved disputes over 34 overlapping seats, while the remaining uncontested seats were left to the respective parties.

"My job was to negotiate the overlapping seats. The ones without overlap are 'free for all' for the respective parties. As for the overlapping ones, they have all been completely resolved," Sanusi stated.

He further revealed that Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) is set to contest a single seat in Bukit Gambir, while Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) did not submit any applications to contest in Johor.

Meanwhile, in his capacity as the PAS election chief, Sanusi announced that PAS will officially unveil its list of candidates this Thursday in Muar.
