Over 750 offensive 3R content items removed from social media since 2022, Parliament told
The Ministry of Communications said the removals were carried out through ongoing cooperation between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and service providers to address content that violates laws and platform guidelines, helping maintain public order.

KUALA LUMPUR - Service providers removed 755 offensive online content items related to race, religion, and the royal institution (3R) between Jan 1 2022, and June 1 2026.
The Ministry of Communications said the removals were carried out through ongoing cooperation between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and service providers to address content that violates laws and platform guidelines, helping maintain public order.
"MCMC also investigates complaints received and prepares investigation papers to be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers for consideration and decisions on further action, including prosecution," the ministry said in a written reply published on the Parliament portal today.
The ministry was responding to a question from Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan), who wanted to know the number of cases involving the disparagement of the royal institution detected on social media from January 2023 to May 2026, as well as the related investigations, prosecutions, and enforcement actions.
The Ministry of Communications said MCMC took enforcement action in 65 cases of online harm related to 3R issues involving the royal institution from Jan 1 2023, to May 31 this year.
Of these cases, the ministry said 10 were prosecuted in court, eight resulted in compounds, 27 received warning notices, and 20 are still under investigation.
"The Ministry of Communications and MCMC remain committed to strengthening the monitoring and enforcement of content related to 3R issues that involve insults against the Royal Institution, in line with the government's efforts to safeguard societal harmony, respect national institutions, and ensure the digital sphere remains safe and responsible," the ministry added. - BERNAMA
