Vote for Malay candidates or risk losing Tanah Melayu, says Tun Mahathir
Malays would face an important choice at the polls and that the consequences of their decision would be far-reaching.

SHAH ALAM – Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on Malay voters to support Malay candidates in the next general election (GE), saying the decision would determine whether the country continues to remain Tanah Melayu.
In an open letter shared on Facebook on Tuesday, the former Langkawi Member of Parliament (MP) said Malays would face an important choice at the polls and that the consequences of their decision would be far-reaching.
“If we want this country to continue to remain Tanah Melayu, vote for Malay candidates without loyalty to any political party or NGO (non-governmental organisation) faction.
“Who are the Malay candidates? That will be announced during the GE,” he said.

Dr Mahathir also argued that the loyalty of Malays should be directed towards the Malay people rather than political parties or specific groups.
He warned that if loyalty was instead placed with political parties or particular factions, Tanah Melayu could lose its identity.
“Without Tanah Melayu, the Malay people will disappear from the world. The Malays will become a people without a country,” he said.
