KOTA BHARU - Kelantanese planning to travel or visit Southern Thailand are urged to always be aware of safety risks following the bomb explosion incident that injured two Malaysians in the Tak Bai district, Narathiwat, on Monday.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the reminder is important considering that many people in the state have family ties and business dealings there, and frequently travel to the region.

He said the state government does not prevent the people of Kelantan from visiting the neighbouring country, but they need to always be cautious and obtain the latest information regarding the security situation before starting their journey.

"Such incidents that occurred in Southern Thailand two days ago have actually happened before, and our people are indeed very cautious. We do not intend to prohibit our citizens from going to Thailand because many of our people have family ties with the people in Thailand.

"However, if you want to travel or visit there, we take the stance of always being cautious and attentive to safety aspects," he said to reporters after the state government exco meeting at Kota Darulnaim here today.

In the incident at 11.41 am local time on Monday, a Proton X50 vehicle carrying two Malaysian men was hit by an explosion from an improvised bomb believed to have been planted by the roadside near the Sapom Intersection, Phrai Wan subdistrict, Tak Bai district in Narathiwat Province.

The victims, aged 38 and 45, sustained injuries and were rushed to Narathiwat Hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu. - BERNAMA
