IPOH - An attempt by a man, dressed as a woman, to jump from a flyover on Jalan Bercham near here was foiled by members of the public and rescue teams in an incident on Sunday morning.

In the incident at about 9.42am, the victim, who sustained an injury to his hand, was successfully talked down before being handed over to Health Ministry personnel for further action.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said a team of personnel from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), assisted by the Ipoh BBP, rushed to the location after receiving an emergency call.

He said the vehicle arrived at the location at 9.55am and found a 24-year-old man on the flyover attempting to jump.

"The operations chief carried out an assessment and then directed personnel to carry out rescue work by counselling and persuading the victim for about fifteen minutes.

"The victim was successfully rescued and was found to have sustained an injury to his hand," he said in a statement on Sunday.

It is understood that several members of the public who witnessed the incident also helped prevent the man from jumping off the flyover.
