After 45 years, Bangsar's beloved Restoran Berjaya closes its doors, leaving generations of memories
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the family behind the restaurant said the decision was made with a heavy heart, citing rising rental costs and the challenges of advancing age.

SHAH ALAM - After serving the Bangsar community for 45 years, Restoran Berjaya has announced that it will permanently close, marking the end of one of the area's longest-standing eateries and a culinary legacy that has been part of many Malaysians' lives across several generations.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the family behind the restaurant said the decision was made with a heavy heart, citing rising rental costs and the challenges of advancing age.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of gratitude and nostalgia from generations of loyal customers who had made the restaurant part of their lives.
"After 45 years of serving our community, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Restoran Berjaya.
"This has not been an easy decision for our family. However, with rising rental costs and the realities of old age, the time has come for us to bring the curtain down on a journey that has lasted four and a half decades," the post read.
Reflecting on the restaurant’s humble beginnings, the family said Restoran Berjaya was founded 45 years ago with little more than a dream, determination and hard work, driven by the hope of serving good food to the community.
They added that they never imagined the journey would take the restaurant so far.
"Over these 45 years, we have had the privilege of seeing customers who first visited us as children return with their own families, children and even grandchildren.
"Our restaurant has been more than just a place to enjoy a meal. It has been a place where memories were made, reunions were celebrated and countless special moments were shared.
"From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to every customer who has ever walked through the doors of Restoran Berjaya.
"Thank you for choosing us, supporting us, recommending us to your family and friends and making us a part of your lives. Without your unwavering support, this 45-year journey would never have been possible," they said.
The restaurant also expressed its appreciation to all its employees, both past and present, for their dedication, sacrifices and commitment throughout the years.
Their contributions, it said, had become an important part of its journey and would always be remembered with gratitude.
"Although the doors of Restoran Berjaya will soon close, the memories we have created together will remain in our hearts forever.
"We sincerely hope that every meal we served brought you joy, just as your kindness, friendship and support have given us strength throughout these many years.
"Finally, thank you for being part of Restoran Berjaya's 45-year journey. It has been one of the greatest honours of our lives to serve you and your families. Thank you and we hope our paths will cross again someday," it added.
The announcement quickly drew hundreds of responses from customers, many of whom shared personal stories spanning decades.
One longtime patron thanked the restaurant for "45 years of warmth, flavour and memories", describing it as far more than a place to eat.
He said Restoran Berjaya had been a constant throughout every stage of his life — from his teenage years to adulthood and eventually fatherhood — with several generations of his family, relatives and friends dining there over the years.
Another customer said he found it difficult to believe the restaurant was closing, recalling that he had been a regular since 2002, from his bachelor days until becoming a father of two.
A woman also shared how her husband brought her to Restoran Berjaya 31 years ago while she was pregnant and craving for "char kuey teow." Although the dish was only served from 3pm and they had arrived around 11.30am, she said the owners noticed her pregnancy and prepared a special plate of "char kuey teow" for her.
Another patron recounted that since her first pregnancy, her in-laws had brought her to the restaurant almost every weekend. More than two decades later, with her son now 24 years old, she thanked the restaurant for the countless meals and cherished family memories.
