IPOH – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has declined to comment on calls for his resignation following Barisan Nasional's (BN) landslide victory in the Johor state election (PRN).

Instead, the Teluk Intan MP stressed that his priority remained serving the people and focusing on their well-being.

"I remain committed to working, serving and contributing to the people. This is my commitment," he said when met during the Storm Disaster Compassionate Aid distribution programme at Kampung Bercham here on Sunday.

Pressed further on questions regarding the Johor election and his position in the unity government, the DAP deputy chairman again declined to elaborate.

He reminded that attention should remain focused on the responsibility of helping the people.

"I understand your role (as journalists), but I also have responsibilities that need to be carried out.

"Let us focus on the people's well-being. My heart is with the people. I can feel their hardship and difficulties. When I come here to help, let us put aside all these issues (politics)," he said.

Earlier, he said RM1 million in compassionate aid had been channelled to 556 families affected by the storm disaster in the Bercham state constituency in June.

"We are here today to hand over assistance to the victims. This is a sign of the Madani Government's concern in helping the people regardless of their background," he said.

He added that the aid had been directly transferred into recipients' bank accounts from Sunday.

"Those receiving the envelopes today mean that the money has already been deposited into their respective accounts," he said.

Previously, it was reported that Nga said he would not hesitate to become the first minister to resign if former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was released following BN's landslide victory in the Johor state election.

In the report, Nga claimed that Johor Umno had repeatedly expressed its desire for Najib to be released earlier, with the slogan 'Umno wins big, Najib returns home', which he described as the party's "red line".
