SHAH ALAM – Former defence minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein welcomed Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s return to Parliament after the Federal Court upheld his acquittal.

In a video shared on Hishammuddin’s Instagram account, the two politicians were seen meeting and exchanging a warm embrace, with Hishammuddin describing the moment as “the best news today”.

The two were also seen chatting casually in the short clip, appearing to share a light-hearted conversation following Syed Saddiq’s court victory.

In the accompanying caption, Hishammuddin wrote “Johor is already Onn, looks like #BASS is ON too!”, referring to Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi being sworn in as Johor Menteri Besar for a second term following BN’s landslide victory in the state election.

Hishammuddin’s “BASS” remark was also a playful reference to Syed Saddiq’s upcoming marriage to singer Bella Astillah.

Earlier today, the Federal Court dismissed the prosecution’s appeal against the acquittal of Syed Saddiq on four charges involving criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering involving Armada funds.

The decision effectively clears Syed Saddiq of the charges and allows him to continue carrying out his duties as Muar MP.
