SHAH ALAM – A spate of fatal road accidents involving motorcyclists in Selangor over the past few days has once again highlighted road safety concerns after crashes in Puncak Alam, Klang and Shah Alam claimed multiple lives.

The latest cases involved motorcyclists killed in collisions involving cars, lorries and road infrastructure, with police urging all road users to remain vigilant and comply with traffic regulations.

In Puncak Alam, a 29-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a car while waiting at a traffic light at the Jalan Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari intersection near Hillpark on July 21.

Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said police received a report regarding the incident at about 8.23pm.

He said preliminary investigations found the crash involved a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle ridden by a local man and a Nissan Almera driven by a foreign national.

“The investigation found that the victim was on his way home from work. When he stopped at a red traffic light, a car driven by a foreign national from behind is believed to have crashed into the rear of the stationary motorcycle.

“The victim's body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam, for a post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Hafiz advised motorists and riders to prioritise safety, obey traffic lights, speed limits and avoid spreading unverified information that could interfere with investigations.

The incident came shortly after another fatal crash involving a motorcyclist at the same Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari area.

According to social media posts, the 35-year-old victim was believed to have been killed after losing control of his motorcycle while attempting to overtake a lorry near the Eco Grandeur commercial centre.

The victim was reportedly scheduled to get engaged this Saturday on July 25.

A Threads user identified as “najwa.eysa” claimed in the comments section that the deceased had booked catering services for his engagement ceremony.

“It turns out the person involved in the accident was my customer, who was supposed to get engaged on July 25. Yesterday, the deceased met my mother to settle the remaining catering payment because he did not want to leave the debt unpaid for too long.

“Today, he is gone. My condolences,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, another fatal crash occurred on Jalan Meru Tambahan involving a 21-year-old factory operator who was on his way to work.

North Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said preliminary investigations found that the victim’s motorcycle skidded before crashing into a road divider.

“The victim's motorcycle skidded and crashed into the road divider before he was thrown into the opposite lane. The victim, who was on his way to work, was then struck by the side of a lorry driven by a 36-year-old man.

“The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Authorities urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the relevant investigating officers.

Beyond individual crashes, public concerns over road safety and urban planning have also emerged following another fatal accident in Shah Alam.

A dashcam video circulating online earlier this morning, showed a car emerging from a roundabout at Bulatan Melawati, Shah Alam Section 15, before colliding with a motorcyclist believed to be a woman. The motorcyclist reportedly died in the incident.

Following the incident, a Threads user @shazrilshaffiee questioned whether increasing industrial activity in the area could worsen traffic risks.

“I am not trying to make it political, but there was an accident in Shah Alam today near that large warehouse area. It involved a lorry and resulted in a fatality. Once that huge warehouse starts operating, how many lorries will be travelling in and out of Section 15?

“How could the Selangor government approve a development like that right in the middle of the city? If it had been built in the Hicom area instead, it would have made more sense since it is also close to the Kesas Expressway,” he wrote.

Another user, @shukrizulkepli, argued that Shah Alam’s original urban planning principles had been compromised over time.

“Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had even engaged town planners from the United Nations (UN) when Shah Alam was first developed.

“They identified which areas would be designated for sports, industry and green spaces. Every section had its own commercial area. Now, it is all ruined,” he said.

Responding to the comment, @shazrilshaffiee said: “It seems like development has become excessively driven by greed.”

The string of fatal crashes has renewed discussions over road safety, traffic management and the impact of increasing urban development on existing road infrastructure in Selangor.
