Motorcyclists remain highest road fatality group in Selangor
The total number of road accidents in the state increased by 3,350 cases or 3.61 per cent between January and June compared with 2025.

SHAH ALAM – Motorcyclists remained the most vulnerable road users in Selangor, accounting for 70.18 per cent of the state's 400 road fatalities recorded between January and June this year.
Selangor Road Safety Council (MKJR) secretary Chong Ka Foo said the situation was even more concerning as motorcycles recorded the highest increase in accident involvement, rising 10.01 per cent to 13,928 cases compared with the same period last year.
He said figures from the Royal Malaysia Police's (PDRM) Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) showed that the total number of road accidents in the state increased by 3,350 case or 3.61 per cent during the same period compared with 2025.
"The increase was driven by a rise in accidents involving vehicle damage only, which went up by 3,409 cases or 3.72 per cent, accounting for 98.92 per cent of the overall increase in road accidents.
"However, all injury categories, including fatal, death, serious injury and minor injury cases, recorded a decline compared with the previous year," he said in a recent statement.
Chong said the Selangor MKJR had stepped up efforts to raise road safety awareness by displaying safety messages on digital LED screens at every local authority (PBT) and through the agencies' social media platforms.
"These efforts must become a continuous practice to ensure the messages reach road users and ultimately help reduce road accidents in Selangor," he said.
