SHAH ALAM - The proposed data centre development in Section 9, Kota Damansara has been withdrawn following weeks of public objections.

Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim described the decision as a victory for residents who had voiced concerns over the project.

In a Facebook statement today, Izuan announced that the consultant had withdrawn the application for the proposed development.

“The consultant has withdrawn the application for the proposed data centre development in Section 9, Kota Damansara. It is a victory for the people of Kota Damansara.

“Thank you to all residents of Kota Damansara,” he wrote.

The withdrawal follows sustained opposition from residents, community groups and elected representatives, who questioned the suitability of the proposed data centre near residential neighbourhoods and educational facilities.

Concerns centred on its potential impact on nearby communities, including noise pollution, traffic congestion, environmental sustainability, high energy, water consumption and the proposed use of a road reserve.

Residents also criticised the public consultation process, describing it as too brief and lacking transparency, while calling for greater public engagement throughout the planning process.

The proposal attracted formal objections from several elected representatives. On July 15, Izuan submitted a petition opposing the proposed data centre on Jalan Rimba Riang, Section 9, after residents raised concerns over its proximity to homes and a school, as well as what they described as a short and flawed public objection process.

MBPJ Zone 3 councillor Muhamad Shazwan Suhaimi also lodged a formal objection, while Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament (MP) and Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan said he would raise the matter at the Cabinet level to seek clearer federal guidelines on the placement of data centres near residential areas.

By July 27, the Petaling Jaya City Council confirmed that the proposed development had not been approved and remained under evaluation after receiving about 290 formal objections.

The council said it had extended the public consultation period after identifying errors on the original public notice board and would take into account both technical assessments and public feedback before reaching a decision.
