SHAH ALAM - Pas' call for Malay unity does not mean hatred towards other races, the party has stressed, adding that it has always carried a message of unity and respect for all races and religions in the country.

Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the call was also not a teaching of Islam that encourages hatred towards other races.

He said Pas respects all races and religions and has never sidelined the interests of any community merely because the party champions the Malay and Islamic agenda.

"Pas calling on all Malays to unite does not mean it is a message to hate other races, that is also not a teaching of Islam.

"Pas respects all races and religions in the country, Pas always carries a message of unity, just because Pas talks about the Malays does not mean other races are sidelined, just because Pas talks about Islam does not mean Pas is an extremist party," he said in a statement on Friday.

Meanwhile, Fadhli also urged the Chinese and Indian communities not to judge Pas based on the views of other parties, but instead to assess the party through explanations from Pas' own leaders.

He said Pas is not an extremist party, does not hate the Chinese and Indian communities and has never rejected unity and cohesion among the people.

At the same time, he said Pas, together with Perikatan Nasional (PN), had previously realised the idea of ummah unity with Umnoo and Barisan Nasional (BN) to restore Malay political power, which he described as the foundation of national stability.

He said the effort is also hoped to be realised in Negeri Sembilan with the support of all parties, in addition to calling on Malay-Muslim electorate to work together to make the ummah unity idea a success.
