JEMPOL – A voter dressed as the fictional character Maleficent drew attention at the polling centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Felda Palong 3 here on Saturday.
Roslina Janian, 46, arrived to cast her vote in the Negeri Sembilan state election wearing a Maleficent-inspired outfit, complete with a black robe, horned headpiece and a staff.
Her unusual appearance caught the attention of voters and polling staff at the centre, although the voting process proceeded smoothly as usual.
Roslina said she deliberately chose the costume to stand out and add a festive touch to polling day.
She said it was not the first time she had dressed up to vote, recalling that she and several friends had previously turned up in matching school uniforms during an earlier election.
“This is just for fun and to do something different. No matter how I’m dressed, fulfilling my responsibility as a citizen by voting remains my priority.
“In the previous election, my friends and I came wearing matching school uniforms. This time, I chose the character Maleficent because I wanted to try something different and make polling day more lively.
“I hope more people will come out to vote because every vote is important in determining the future of the state,” she told Sinar.
Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) announced that 71,106 of the 859,760 registered voters, or 8.29 per cent, had cast their ballots in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election as of 9am on Saturday.
In a Facebook post, the EC said Labu recorded the highest voter turnout at that time with 10.4 per cent, followed by Senaling (10.3 per cent) and Ampangan (9.4 per cent).
Rantau recorded the lowest turnout, at 6.4 per cent.
