SUBANG JAYA – Homegrown footwear brand Abaro strengthened its commitment to Malaysian sepak takraw by launching its first dedicated shoe while supporting Selangor’s men’s and women’s 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) teams with funding and equipment.

As part of its Abaro Langkah Juara campaign, the initiative aims to nurture grassroots talent, improve access to the sport and encourage more Malaysian brands to invest in the next generation of athletes.

During the launch on Aug 1, Abaro contributed RM10,000 and 56 pairs of Abaro Takraw shoes to the Persatuan Sepak Takraw Selangor (PSS), while also officially unveiling Selangor’s men’s and women’s squads for Sukma 2026.

Abaro chief operating officer Kevin Soh Kian Wee said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to supporting local athletes and strengthening the development of sepak takraw at the grassroots level.

“That belief is what brought Abaro and PSS together. As a Malaysian brand, we want to play our part in giving back to the community by supporting the next generation of players.

“Through this partnership, we hope to make Abaro Takraw shoes more accessible and inspire more young Malaysians to discover and pursue the sport, because every champion’s journey begins with that very first step on the school court,” he said.

PSS president Datuk Ahmad Zaffry Sulaiman welcomed the partnership, saying corporate support played an important role in helping athletes prepare for major competitions.

He said today’s occasion celebrates athletes who have earned their place in the Selangor Sukma squads through years of hard work and determination.

“As they prepare for Sukma 2026, support from partners like Abaro allows them to focus on performing at their best.

“Partnerships like this are more than sponsorships. They are an investment in the future of our athletes and the future of Malaysian sepak takraw.

“We hope Abaro’s commitment inspires more Malaysian brands to stand behind the next generation of players,” he mentioned.

The event also marked the official introduction of Abaro Takraw, a shoe developed specifically for the demands of sepak takraw.

Designed to improve comfort, grip and agility on court, the shoe features a slip-resistant rubber outsole for traction, a shock-absorbing rubber insole, a flexible outsole to support agile movement, a reinforced rubber toe cap for repeated kicking and a heel loop for easier wear.

It is available in a black-and-white colourway.

Joining the campaign as Abaro Takraw Pro is Malaysian national sepak takraw player and SEA Games gold medallist Farhan Adam, who said footwear designed specifically for the sport could improve player performance and comfort.

“In sepak takraw, you are constantly moving, jumping and kicking, so having the right footwear makes a big difference.

“I like that Abaro Takraw grips the court well and keeps my feet feeling secure without being too tight.

“There is also enough room around the toes, making it comfortable to wear throughout training and competition,” he said.

To coincide with the launch and build excitement ahead of Sukma 2026, Abaro also introduced the #RajaLibasChallenge, a nationwide digital campaign running from Aug 3 to Aug 31.

Led by Farhan, the challenge invites Malaysians to record their best ‘libas’ kick or pose, post it on Instagram or TikTok using #RajaLibasChallenge, tag @Abaroshoes and complete their submission by sending the keyword “LIBAS” via direct message to Abaro’s official Instagram or TikTok account.

The five most impressive entries will each receive a personalised pair of Abaro Takraw shoes bearing Farhan’s signature initials, an Abaro jersey autographed by the national player and an RM200 Abaro voucher.

Ten consolation winners will each receive an RM100 Abaro voucher and a signed Abaro jersey.
