SHAH ALAM – Perikatan Nasional (PN) is still awaiting clarification from its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan on whether feedback has been received regarding Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) status with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Takiyuddin had reportedly sent a letter to his Bersatu counterpart on the matter following reports that the party did not have sufficient quorum to hold a meeting.

He said Takiyuddin was entitled to seek clarification on the status of other component parties, not only Bersatu but also the Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP).

“So far, I understand that the letter seeking clarification has not been answered. When it is not answered, we do not know what Bersatu’s status with RoS is.

“We consider that when they (Bersatu) do not respond to the letter within the given period, we face a risk if RoS says their meeting was invalid and so on. Those of us in the coalition could also face legal implications.

“So, Bersatu’s position in PN may be discussed by the Supreme Council. Besides, we need clarification from the PN secretary-general on whether they (Bersatu) have responded to the letter or not, so we will see what happens at the next Supreme Council meeting,” he told Sinar.

Tuan Ibrahim added that Bersatu’s position was also unclear following statements by its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, about forming a new coalition.

“That statement seemed to signal that they would not remain with PN.

“Secondly, Muhyiddin also said PN is already damaged and has been damaged by Pas. So, if PN is already damaged, why would he join this damaged coalition?

“When he accused and said PN is already damaged, he could not possibly want to remain with a coalition party that he considers damaged,” he said.
