Perlis exco Megat Hashirat quits Bersatu Arau post over party's direction
The Pauh assemblyman stressed that the decision was based on his own position and personal considerations.

KANGAR – Current developments within Bersatu and the direction of its leadership have prompted Perlis Executive Councillor Megat Hashirat Hassan to resign as a committee member of the party’s Arau division.
His resignation took effect on Aug 10 and was confirmed by Bersatu Perlis State Leadership Body chairman Abu Bakar Hamzah, who is also the Perlis Menteri Besar.
In his official resignation letter addressed to Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Megat said he had made the decision after considering the party’s current developments and the direction of its leadership.
“After assessing the current situation and direction of the party leadership, I feel that the decision to step down from the position is the most appropriate course of action,” he said.
The Pauh assemblyman stressed that the decision was based on his own position and personal considerations.
He also expressed his appreciation for the experience, cooperation and trust he had received while carrying out his responsibilities in the Bersatu Arau division.
“I would like to express my highest appreciation and gratitude to the entire leadership and members of Bersatu Arau division for all the cooperation that has been given.
“I hope this decision will be accepted and taken note of by the party,” he added.
Megat remains one of Bersatu’s leaders serving in the Perlis state administration. He holds the portfolio of chairman of the state Agriculture, Health, Entrepreneurship and Cooperatives, as well as Environment Committee.
His resignation comes after Abu Bakar previously stepped down as a member of Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council to focus on administering the Perlis state government.
However, Abu Bakar said he remained a Bersatu member and continued to serve as Bersatu Perlis BPN chairman and Bersatu Kangar division chief.
Another Perlis Executive Councillor, Marzita Mansor, was also reported to have resigned as a supreme council member in July.
