PUTRAJAYA – The decision by a majority of 1,857 delegates to support DAP remaining in the Unity government is a clear signal from the grassroots and must be upheld, said DAP vice-chairman Syahredzan Johan.

He said the party acknowledged that there were weaknesses in certain areas, but it was better for DAP to continue supporting the government while fulfilling its election manifesto for the well-being of the people.

The Bangi MP said DAP must rise and continue driving change with renewed determination.

“Remember that our position in this government has been strongly endorsed by the delegates.

“The message from the delegates is very clear. They want to fulfil the mandate given by the people to DAP as a government party,” he said.

Syahredzan said this after a press conference at the 2026 DAP National Congress at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here on Sunday.

On the involvement of Malays in DAP over the past 10 years, he said there had been a significant increase in Malay membership.

He said this could be seen through Malay participation at various levels, from ordinary members and branch committee members to village chiefs, councillors, state assemblymen and Members of Parliament.

“What DAP likes to call ‘strength in depth’, for example, in a football team, can also be seen in DAP. Malays are present at every level, including the leadership.

“They are ready to serve the party and the people,” he said.

The 2026 DAP National Congress was held to give delegates the opportunity to decide whether the party should remain in or withdraw from the unity government.

In a vote of 1,857 to 242, delegates agreed that DAP should remain in the government until the end of the 15th Parliament term.

A total of 2,106 ballots were issued and accepted, while only seven ballot papers were reported as spoilt.
