‘Era of elites determining the nation’s direction is over’ – Sanusi
Sanusi said elites also found it difficult to understand the everyday language used by ordinary people, let alone understand their feelings and the lives they went through.

KOTA BHARU – “The era of elites” determining the country’s direction is over, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor declared, urging ordinary Malaysians to rise and take control of their own fate.
He said the wealthy were estimated to make up only 10 per cent of the population but controlled between 75 and 80 per cent of the wealth, while the remaining 90 per cent of ordinary people shared only about 25 per cent of the wealth.
“So, I feel that this is unfair. It is time for ordinary people to determine their own fate.
"Do not leave your fate in the hands of the elites. They do not understand us,” he said during the Anak Muda Podcast in conjunction with the 72nd Pas Muktamar at the Kelantan Islamic Education Centre (Putik) in Pengkalan Chepa here on Thursday.
Sanusi said elites also found it difficult to understand the everyday language used by ordinary people, let alone understand their feelings and the lives they went through.
He said this was why many elites became upset when they heard him use terms representing ordinary people that were somewhat harsh, resulting in his words being misinterpreted as rude, gangster-like or abusive.

“My language may be a little harsh, brutal and some people may feel uncomfortable, but this is my language, the language of the majority of us.
“We cannot use aristocratic or bombastic language that is difficult for people to understand,” he said.
Sanusi said he did not intend to disparage any members of the elite who were still able to understand the plight of ordinary people, but said such individuals were usually portrayed as those who had been ‘born in a rice granary’.
“Those who were born in a rice granary or among sacks of rice do not understand people who are struggling. They only pretend to understand, but in reality, they do not.
“So, I speak, lead and handle matters from the perspective of people who are struggling,” he said.
