Pas calls for broader unity, urges members to stop internal conflicts

The party should strive to be a bridge that connects rather than a wall that divides, serving as peacemakers in times of conflict and working to unite the Muslim community.

KOTA BHARU - Pas has called for greater unity among Muslims, saying internal divisions weaken the community's political strength and undermine its dignity.

Pas Pahang delegate Nasaruddin Hassan urged the party's leaders and supporters to replace a politics of punishment with education, guidance and nurturing in efforts to strengthen unity.

He said there should be no attempts to create conflict or undermine the unity agenda, while cautioning members against using harsh or divisive language in their speeches and writings.

Social media, he said, should also be used as a platform for unity rather than division.

"A single harsh or divisive social media post could undermine years of efforts to build unity. Pas members should avoid turning minor differences into conflicts, he said during the 72nd Pas Muktamar at Pusat Tarbiah Islam Kelantan (Putik) in Pengkalan Chepa, here, today.

He said unity required members to have a big heart, including being willing to forgive past mistakes while learning from them.

At the same time, he stressed that unity did not mean abandoning Pas' principles.

“We remain firm in our beliefs and struggle, clear in our Islamic thinking and steadfast in our objectives,” Nasrudin said.

He also called on Pas to become a broader platform for the Muslim community by reaching out to scholars, Islamic non-governmental organisations, professionals, young people, religious figures, community activists and those who had previously disagreed with the party.

“Pas must become a destination for those who want to contribute to the struggle. It must become a platform where the ummah can find shelter and common ground,” he said.

He added that the party should remain open to those who had previously been with the party, those who had left and those who had disagreed with it, as long as there was room to sit together for the sake of Islam, the Muslim community and the country.

He said Pas should strive to be a bridge that connects rather than a wall that divides, serving as peacemakers in times of conflict and working to unite the Muslim community.
