HYDERABAD - Bangladesh, the world’s third-largest producer of rice, has cut the export quota for aromatic rice by 50 per cent to keep domestic supplies and retail prices stable.

"The quantities previously allocated to 278 approved exporters have been revised downward by half,” news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported on Tuesday, citing a Commerce Ministry notification.

The revised allocations will remain valid until the end of this year.

The quantity of aromatic rice exports by 129 of the approved exporters was 2,419 tonnes as of August, the report noted.

The government has also set a minimum free on board (FOB) export price of US$1.60 per kilogramme to safeguard rice prices in the international market. - BERNAMA
