Rafizi’s hilarious reality check: Why marrying a politician isn't the fantasy you think
“Careful, politicians come in many types,” he quipped.
HAJAR NAZLI
SHAH ALAM – When a Threads user dreamily posted about wanting to marry a politician because “life seems so easy”, former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli was quick to offer a reality check.
And it came with a warning: politicians come in many types — and none may be quite the dream husband you imagined.
Responding to viral user @kitapwincessss, who mused about marrying a politician, Rafizi offered a tongue-in-cheek breakdown of what life with different varieties of politician could actually look like.
“Careful, politicians come in many types,” he quipped.
First, there is the honest but penniless politician — the one who refuses to take bribes, leaving the household financially humble.
Then comes the night owl politician, whose constant late nights could leave an insecure spouse lying awake wondering where, exactly, the husband is.
Next is the corruption-prone politician — quick with public funds but potentially even quicker to land himself in trouble, leaving his wife permanently anxious about whether the next knock on the door will come from the authorities.
And finally, there is the politician who believes one wife is not necessarily enough, particularly when the law allows up to four, leaving the existing spouse wondering whether another partner might soon be added to the household.
The joke quickly took on a life of its own, with social media users amused by Rafizi’s unexpectedly cheeky side.
One user joked that he was beginning to sound like a typical social-media uncle, while another suggested he had apparently added “love coach” to his résumé.

Rafizi played along.
When told his job description seemed to be expanding, he joked that perhaps it was time to ask for a pay rise.
Another commenter remarked on his newfound sense of humour.
Rafizi replied that the humour had always been there — it was just that years of “character assassination” had made people think he was as fierce as a tiger.
His clarification came with another punchline: he was only fierce towards people who stole money.
But after running through the various varieties of politician-husband, Rafizi had one final piece of advice, delivered in his best “uncle” mode: Just forget the idea.
