Woman's scalp torn off after hair gets caught in Ferris wheel
Her hair became caught in the wheel's rotating mechanism, located behind her seat.
MAHARASHTRA - A woman was seriously injured after her hair got caught in the wheel mechanism of a Ferris wheel while riding it at a fair in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, India on Friday.
A large portion of her scalp reportedly tore off after her hair was pulled forcefully as the ride spun at high speed.
The woman has been identified as Bali Maroti Talikote, 25, from Phulsawangi, who was attending the fair held in conjunction with the Tanha Pola festival celebrations in Mahagaon, Yavatmal district.
The day-long fair, held in keeping with annual tradition, drew a large number of women and children from surrounding villages seeking blessings at the Puneshwar Mahadev Temple.
According to an NDTV report, Talikote's hair became caught in the wheel's rotating mechanism, located behind her seat, just as the ride began moving. The Ferris wheel continued spinning at high speed, pulling her hair abruptly and forcefully and she screamed in pain as a large part of her scalp tore off.
Her screams caught the attention of visitors at the scene and the situation turned chaotic once they saw her covered in blood.
Police officers stationed at the fairground moved quickly to stop the ride. Assistant Police Inspector Sunil Ambhure and Police Constable Suhas Kayte arrived at the scene and, with the help of local residents, managed to stop the wheel, which was still spinning.
The victim was then removed from the ride and taken to hospital for treatment.
