KLUANG – A man and a widow were caught in khalwat at a rented house in the district, exposing a relationship that had resulted in the woman becoming pregnant and giving birth to a child.

The man, in his 50s, admitted to having a relationship with the woman, in her 30s, and said she was his future wife.

The Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) said the man told enforcement officers that the woman was his future wife, but no marriage application had been submitted.

“He admitted that he had had sexual relations with the woman several times at the house, which resulted in her becoming pregnant.

“However, they were not legally married when the raid was conducted,” it said in a statement.

JAINJ said enforcement officers also found the baby sleeping in a room during the inspection.

“The baby’s birth certificate listed only the mother’s name and did not include the father’s name.

“The man later admitted that he was responsible for the woman’s pregnancy and the birth of the child,” it said.

JAINJ said the raid was conducted at about 1.15am recently after it received a complaint about the couple.

“Upon arriving at the location, enforcement officers found a car believed to belong to the man parked outside before proceeding to the house.

“The door and grille were closed. The officers knocked and called out several times but received no response,” it said.

JAINJ said the man eventually opened the door after more than 25 minutes when enforcement officers warned that they would force it open.

“He claimed that he did not hear the knocking because he was asleep. The officers then identified themselves and showed their authority cards.

“He admitted that he was with the woman and claimed that she was his future wife,” it said.

Further inspection found the woman on a bed with the baby in the room.

“The man also pleaded with the officers not to detain him. However, the enforcement officers proceeded with the necessary action in accordance with the law.

“The couple are being investigated under Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997 for khalwat and Section 23 of the same enactment,” it said.
