"This achievement reflects the university's continuous commitment toward making the sustainability agenda part of its strategic direction, governance, and institutional culture."
KUALA NERUS - Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) has strengthened its position in the field of global sustainability by jumping to 109th place in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, compared to 149th last year.
UniSZAVice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Fadzli Adam said this achievement reflects the university's continuous commitment toward making the sustainability agenda part of its strategic direction, governance, and institutional culture.
He added that at the Asian level, UniSZA also recorded an increase of 23 rungs - moving from 80th place in 2025 to 57th this year - while maintaining its position as ninth among universities in Malaysia under the same rating system.
"The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an international university sustainability rating introduced by Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2020 to measure the commitment and performance of higher education institutions in implementing sustainability practices and addressing environmental challenges.
"For UniSZA, sustainability is not just about a ranking position. What is more important is how sustainability principles are translated into university development, campus management, education, research, innovation, and our relationship with the community," he said in a statement today. - BERNAMA
