Naked man arrested after causing disturbance in Ayer Molek
Police say the suspect allegedly tried to snatch a woman’s phone and took hold of her two-year-old daughter in a separate incident

MELAKA – A 36-year-old man was arrested in Taman Ayer Molek here on Tuesday after he was believed to have caused a public disturbance.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Asst Comm Halim Abas said the suspect was arrested by the Melaka Tengah Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) team at about 8.20pm.
He said the incident began at about 8pm when the suspect, who was naked, allegedly entered a vehicle belonging to a complainant parked in the compound of a house at Jalan Molek 1, Taman Ayer Molek.
“The complainant, who noticed the incident, asked his son to get out of the vehicle before pulling the suspect out,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The suspect then became aggressive and refused to leave the area, prompting the complainant to contact the 999 emergency line for police assistance,” he said.
A video showing a naked man covered in blood being restrained by members of the public following the incident had earlier gone viral on social media.
Halim said another incident, which was believed to involve the same suspect, was reported when a man, his wife and their two-year-old daughter encountered a person believed to be the suspect at the Taman Ayer Molek intersection.
He said the suspect allegedly tried to snatch the woman’s mobile phone before taking hold of the couple’s daughter.
“The complainant then tried to get his daughter back, resulting in a brief struggle before members of the public helped restrain the suspect while waiting for the police to arrive,” he said.
Following the information received, the Melaka Tengah MPV team was immediately sent to the location and arrested the suspect.
The suspect, who had sustained a head injury, was later taken to the Tiang Dua Police Station for further action.
Halim said a preliminary urine screening test found that the suspect tested positive for THC.
He said the case was being investigated under Sections 12(3) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, and Sections 324 and 377D of the Penal Code.
Checks also showed that the suspect had a previous offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, he said.
A seven-day remand order was obtained against the suspect from Sept 30 to Oct 6 to assist investigations.
Halim also advised members of the public not to take matters into their own hands when dealing with aggressive or suspicious individuals.
“Members of the public are advised to immediately contact the police or call the 999 emergency line so that appropriate action can be taken,” he said.
