3,383 packets of subsidised cooking oil seized in Sungai Petani warehouse raid
Two brothers, aged 18 and 26, were detained after the cooking oil was found stored without a licence at a used clothing warehouse

SUNGAI PETANI – The misappropriation of subsidised packet cooking oil was uncovered during a raid on a used clothing warehouse in a light industrial area here on Monday.
Kedah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the activity was believed to have been concealed behind the warehouse’s used clothing business.
He said the premises were believed to have been deliberately chosen by those involved to avoid detection by the authorities.
“Further checks found subsidised packet cooking oil stored at the premises without a licence or permission from the Supply Controller.
“KPDN Kedah seized 3,383 packets of subsidised cooking oil for further investigation, with the total value of the seized items exceeding RM8,457,” he said.
He said the raid had uncovered the alleged misappropriation, which was believed to have been ongoing for about a month.
He added that two brothers, aged 18 and 26, were detained to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.
If convicted, offenders face a fine of up to RM1 million, imprisonment for up to three years, or both for a first offence.
For a second or subsequent offence, they face a fine of up to RM3 million, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
