KUALA LIPIS – The Pahang state government plans to develop commercial areas within a 15km to 16km radius of East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) stations to boost economic activity in rural communities.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the initiative was part of preparations for the expected influx of tourists using the rail service.

“I have asked the local authorities to conduct further studies on developing commercial areas so that the people of Pahang can benefit from them.

“Even before the ECRL service begins operating, we have seen significant benefits.

“We have managed to reduce the unemployment rate and increase tourist arrivals in Pahang. With the ECRL covering seven stations across 150km in the state, we can expect an even greater economic spillover,” he said.

Wan Rosdy also urged Pahang residents to prepare for the arrival of tourists, adding that the state government would improve transport connectivity, including services linking villages to ECRL stations.

He was speaking at the Sinar Harian Town Hall Rakyat (THR) programme at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah here on Monday.

Wan Rosdy also said an affordable apartment project would be developed in Bentong to support economic growth in the area.

“We have already held the groundbreaking ceremony for the affordable apartment project in Bentong, and construction will begin soon,” he said.
