The family’s lawyer, N Surendran, said they were informed in the afternoon that the execution would proceed, after earlier being told in the morning that it had been halted.

Datchinamurthy is among four Malaysians facing execution after their most recent appeals were dismissed.

A Singapore court has stayed the execution of a Pannir Selvam (left) for the second time just hours before he was due to be hanged for drug trafficking on Thursday.
