The Malayan Tiger has always been celebrated as the iconic emblem of the country and for it to go into extinction is a loss to national pride and identity. Currently there are only 150 of the endangered species left in the country.

In its effort to raise awareness on the endangered status of Malayan tigers, Habib launched a limited-edition Year of the Tiger-inspired 999 gold wafer coin, in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

The jeweller also contributed RM38,888 to the president of Rimau.NGO, Lara Ariffin to help ramp up their efforts in putting up more rangers and patrollers to keep poaches out.

In addition to the money contribution, part of the proceeds from the sales of the 999 gold wafer coins will also be channeled to Rimau.NGO.

"We launched this collection to showcase the beauty of this animal and to educate Malaysians about the importance of conserving the tigers. It is important to act now and we believe that Rimau would be the best partner to support this cause as they are fully focused on the conservation of the tigers," said the executive chairman of Habib Group, Datuk Sri Meer Habib.

The tiger wafer coin is wrapped in red and gold packaging, an ode to Chinese New Year 2022, and is available for purchase at Habib stores as well as online.
