"There is an acute shortage of assets to protect and patrol our seas for ensuring safety. This has been a recurring concern," said Chief of Armed Forces General Tan Sri Affendi Buang.

“Other powers with vested interests in the region have become increasingly involved. They assert their presence and seek a level of control over the area to justify their own concerns.
