A fire at a retirement home in the early hours of Friday in Milan killed six people, firefighters said, with some 80 other residents hospitalised suffering from smoke inhalation. Photo for illustrative purposes only - 123RF

The boat, carrying nine women, four adult men, a child and two boat drivers, encountered the incident around 9:30pm.

A total of 48 firefighters with 10 fire engines and four water tankers along with an ambulance were deployed to the location.
