JOHOR BAHRU – Hopeful first-time homeowners now have a better chance to own their dream residence as the government have integrated an easier financing facility under the government-owned credit guarantee company, Syarikat Jaminan Kredit Perumahan Berhad (SJKP) with the Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the initiative was in line with the government’s aspiration of "One Family, One Home" and the 12th Malaysia Plan where the government have pledge to build more affordable homes in the country.

"Every Malaysian family dreams of having a harmonious life, a comfortable home as well as a great career. This dream is not impossible to achieve especially when it is supported by the relevant agencies to achieve this aspiration.

"In fact, this innovative PR1MA financing facility is one of the examples that should be the benchmark of the efforts by the government and PR1MA to prepare easier financing access to homebuyers.

"This consumer-friendly initiative will open more opportunities to the many Malaysian families especially the youth and middle-income earners to own PR1MA homes without the worry on how to finance their home purchases,’’ he said during his keynote speech prior to presenting offer letters to PR1MA home buyers at Residensi Larkin Indah here today.

In the budget 2022, the government had allocated RM2 billion to SJKP, an agency under the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), to help potential homeowners with easier financing facilities.

Those without payslips and fixed incomes are eligible to apply under the SJKP schemes.

Also present at the event was KPKT Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican who reassured of his ministry’s commitment as well as that of The National Affordable Housing Council of the "One Family, One Home" mission.

Reezal also stated that his ministry is actively working towards addressing the issue of homeownership in a comprehensive manner namely availability, affordability, accessibility, quality, and liveability.

"The ministry wants to look at these problems and avoid any mismatch in supply in demand not just in the broad sense but more specific. For example, what is considered affordable in Kuala Lumpur may not be affordable in Kinabatangan, so we are working on these issues,’’ he said.

Along with Reezal, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Johor caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad was also present at today’s event.
