Dr Mahathir, in his speech, said the party only needed 112 seats for victory but "we contest for more than 120 seats, maybe we will not win all but the possibility of us winning is there," he said.

He further told voters that if they did not vote, it meant that they helped Umno win.

Dr Mahathir also said the increase in food price, the fall of ringgit value as well as floods were among the major issues faced by the people in this country, hence there was a need for a change of government and the right leaders to be chosen.

"This is the situation in the country now, we must admit that other countries also have their own issues but not as bad as Malaysia.

"That is why we need to change the government and choose the right people to lead the country.

"I don't see how those who stole money could be a good leader for us,” he added.

He said this in referral to the corruption of Umno, especially by the party’s leaders with alleged corruption scandals and court cases.
