KUANTAN – A man, believed to be a former national hockey player who had been living homeless, has been located and is now receiving assistance from the authorities.
Pahang Social Welfare Department Director Khairul Amri Ahmad confirmed that the police found the individual on Sunday and was subsequently taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) for medical treatment.
"We will work with the hospital to gather more information about his background and family.
"Our responsibility is to ensure he receives the necessary care and treatment, with the goal of helping him regain his stability and return to a normal life," Khairul Amri told Sinar on Monday.
The man, identified as Mohamad Asmawi, became the subject of a viral video on May 9, which showed him barefoot, appearing disoriented and mentally unstable.
Asmawi, 36, was once a proud member of Malaysia’s national hockey team, competing in international tournaments in Germany, India and Pakistan.
He stepped away from his career around the age of 25 and returned to his hometown, but his subsequent struggles led to his current situation.
