Viral video of distressed man identified as former national hockey player
Asmawi, who proudly wore the national Under-16 jersey, represented Malaysia in prestigious tournaments across Germany, India and Pakistan, cementing his place in the country’s sporting history.

SHAH ALAM – A viral video showing a man walking barefoot, speaking incoherently and appearing mentally unstable has triggered widespread concern on social media.
The individual has been identified as Mohamad Asmawi Zaidi, a former national junior hockey player who once brought honour to Malaysia on the international stage.

Asmawi, who proudly wore the national Under-16 jersey, represented Malaysia in prestigious tournaments across Germany, India and Pakistan, cementing his place in the country’s sporting history.
A former teammate, who shared a close bond with Asmawi during their time playing for Terengganu at the Malaysia Games (Sukma), has confirmed the identity of the individual in the video.
He urged anyone who recognises Asmawi or is in close proximity to him to provide assistance.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the man in the video is Mohamad Asmawi, my former teammate both at Sukma and at Sekolah Sukan Bandar Penawar, now known as Sekolah Sukan Tunku Ismail (SSTMI).
"His current condition is alarming and I sincerely hope the relevant authorities step in to offer him the support and care he urgently needs. Asmawi deserves our help, as he once made Malaysia proud,” he said.
