University student murder case: Family member confronts suspect in court

SEPANG – A murder remand hearing turned chaotic at the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday when a man, believed to be a family member of the murdered university student, attempted to confront the main suspect as he was being led out of the courtroom.

Three suspects, including the main suspect, were arrested a day after the incident, while another suspect was detained two days later.

The main suspect, a local man, along with two female suspects, was seen exiting the court around 9.50am when the man began walking towards them while shouting.

Quick action by police officers at the scene calmed the individual down, preventing any untoward incident.

Previously, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan was reported as saying that with the arrest of four individuals, including the main suspect, who is the boyfriend of the victim’s housemate, the case was solved within 48 hours.

He stated the remand period for all suspects would end on Thursday and Friday and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Three suspects, including the main suspect, were arrested a day after the incident, while another suspect was detained two days later.

The friend of the main suspect, who was also arrested, was with him when the victim’s ATM card was used.

The victim, Maniishapriet Kaur, 20, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student from Sarawak, was found dead in her condominium unit in Cyberjaya by a friend at 10am on June 24.
