SHAH ALAM - In the early hours of Sunday, a routine crime prevention patrol by Simpang Pulai police escalated into a violent confrontation.
At around 1.15am, officers spotted a suspicious car in Taman Desa Pakatan, Ipoh.
When signalled to stop, the driver sped off, triggering a police chase that ended at an oil palm plantation near Aalborg Portland Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
As officers tried to arrest the suspect, a struggle broke out.
The 26-year-old constable was shot in the abdomen with his own service weapon, which the suspect had managed to seize during the tussle.
He was also stabbed before the suspect fled with the firearm.
The policeman is now being treated at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
Shocking Discovery
Police later discovered the body of a woman in the back seat of the suspect’s car.
The victim's identity has not yet been confirmed and investigators are awaiting post-mortem results to determine the cause of death.
This has linked the suspect not only to the attack on police but also to a possible murder.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin on Sunday night confirmed that six individuals comprising five men and one woman have been detained to assist in the investigation.
Their exact connection to the case has not been disclosed.
The case is being investigated as murder (Section 302 of the Penal Code) and an attempted murder (Section 307 of the Penal Code).
The suspect also faces charges under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries severe penalties, including the possibility of the death sentence.
