Police said Imran eventually confessed, claiming he killed her “to get away from her” and even tried to stage the scene as if someone else had committed the crime by tearing her clothes before running off.

HATHRAS- What started as repeated nudges to tie the knot took a dark turn when a woman’s constant push for marriage allegedly drove a 45-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh, India to a fatal decision.

Police officers in Hathras have arrested Imran, 45, who was alleged to have strangled 60-year-old Joshina after she repeatedly pressured him to marry her.

Her body was discovered on Nov 14, near the Nagla Bhus T-junction in the Chandpa area of the district.

Police did not hold back in launching a massive hunt. They rolled out 10 investigation teams, combed through around 1,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) clips spanning five districts and finally zeroed in on Imran from Tajganj, Agra.

He was nabbed near the Hatisa bridge on Sunday, with the victim’s phone still with him.

Police Superintendent Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said Imran had once helped arrange the wedding of Joshina’s daughter, Mumtaz, to a local man named Sattar.

That connection meant their families crossed paths often, especially since Imran’s in-laws lived near Joshina’s home in West Bengal. Over time, they reportedly grew close.

Things escalated in early November when Joshina travelled from Kolkata for her grandchild’s wedding.

She visited Imran’s home and according to police, pressed him to marry her. But Imran had already told investigators that he rejected her advances because he had a wife and children.

During interrogation, Imran told police he had gone out with her on Nov 13, pretending he wanted to send her back to Kolkata.

Instead, he took her on a bus headed towards Agra and later got off with her at the Nagla Bhus junction.

Police said Imran eventually confessed, claiming he killed her “to get away from her” and even tried to stage the scene as if someone else had committed the crime by tearing her clothes before running off.

The case has now sparked fresh online chatter about obsession, boundaries and how far someone might go when pushed past their limits, though none expected a story this extreme.
