TANAH MERAH - "We were officially husband and wife for only two days."
This was the heartfelt expression of Irfan Syabil Ibrahim, 23, a security guard from Pekan, Pahang, after he and his wife, the late Nur Ain Izayu Rosli, 28, were involved in a road accident just two days after their wedding.
The eldest of four siblings said their solemnisation ceremony was held on Jan 31 and the tragic accident that claimed his wife’s life occurred on Feb 2 at around 10am.
"At that time, my wife and I were on our way home after visiting the Tanah Merah District Religious Office to submit some forms.
"On the morning of the incident, we first dropped off her younger siblings at school and then went to the laundry to wash clothes.
"While driving home, I suddenly lost consciousness. When I regained awareness, I realised we had been involved in an accident, with people around us offering help.
"I was trapped in the car at that time and saw my wife vomiting blood," he said when contacted on Friday.
Irfan said the car he was driving skidded and hit a concrete drainage barrier, causing severe injuries to his wife.
He said at that moment, all he could do was pray for the safety of his wife, who was the eldest of eight siblings and asked for help to take her to the hospital immediately for treatment.
However, his hope of seeing his wife, whom he had loved for five years, recover, was shattered when doctors informed him that she had died upon arrival at the hospital.
"Only Allah SWT knows how heartbroken I was. We had known each other since 2020 through Instagram and maintained a long-distance relationship before getting married.
"We were husband and wife for just two days," he said.
Irfan said their wedding reception, originally scheduled for Feb 15 in Pahang, was instead changed to a tahlil in memory of his wife.
He added that he is still in Gual Ipoh, recovering from a broken left leg and now depends on a wheelchair and crutches to move around.
"I am staying at my in-laws’ house as it’s easier to visit my wife’s grave," he said.
