"We (MACC) have attempted to reach them through their lawyers and urged them to present themselves at our office as soon as possible,” he explained, saying that they were being traced to facilitate the investigation over failures and non-compliance in the declaration of assets.

The investigation, codenamed Ops Godfather, is being conducted under Section 23 and Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009, as well as Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001.

On Feb 28, the MACC issued public notices seeking the four siblings after they failed to respond to earlier official notices.

Azam said the probe involves tracing assets in several countries, but declined to disclose further details, including locations and amounts.

"We have identified assets in several countries. I do not wish to name the countries or the total sums, but they amount to billions of ringgit,” he said.

The investigation is being handled by the MACC’s Special Operations Division, which is working with foreign authorities. Azam said the process must comply with Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) requirements before further action can be taken.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban recently said three of the children were recorded as having left the country in late January and early February. - BERNAMA
