SHAH ALAM – Veteran Tamil and Telugu film producer RB Choudary, 79, died on Tuesday after sustaining critical injuries in a car accident in Udaipur, Rajasthan, according to Indian media reports.
He was the founder of Super Good Films.
His remains are expected to be brought to Chennai on Wednesday, with funeral arrangements still being finalised.
Choudary, who hailed from Rajasthan, entered film production in 1988 and built a career spanning Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi cinema.
His first Tamil production, Pudhu Vasantham, directed by Vikraman, earned him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award.
He also produced K.S. Ravikumar's directorial debut, Puriyada Pudir and is credited with launching more than 30 filmmakers over the course of his career.
He is survived by four sons — film producer Suresh, entrepreneur Jeevan and actors Jithan Ramesh and Jiiva.
The news prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the Indian film industry.
Superstar Rajinikanth described his late friend as a "top-notch producer" and "wonderful human being" who had given opportunities to countless young directors.
"His untimely death has left me in great shock and immense sorrow," he wrote on X.
Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan recalled working with Choudary on Suswagatham and praised him for selecting stories suited to family audiences.
"He earned a special place as a producer in both Telugu and Tamil film industries," he reportedly said.
Chiranjeevi said he was deeply heartbroken by the loss, noting his recent collaboration with Choudary on Godfather through Super Good Films.
"His contribution to Indian cinema is beyond words," he posted.
Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran also paid tribute on his Instagram story.
