SHAH ALAM - The gates of the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara) campus in Kuala Lumpur are set to swing wide this Saturday (May 9) transforming the grounds into a pulsating hub of creativity for ASWARA Artskap 2026.
Moving away from a traditional open house, this year’s event is reimagined as a fresh and inclusive urban arts festival that invites the public to step directly into the world of Malaysian heritage and modern expression.
From 9am to 10pm visitors can wander through a campus alive with energy, completely free of charge.
The heart of the festival lies in its "Skap" interactive zones, designed to offer a tactile experience with the arts.
You might find yourself caught in the rhythmic energy of Skap Pentas, where live theater, music, and dance performances take centre stage, or stepping into the quiet focus of Skap Studio to watch master artisans demonstrate their craft.
For those who want to do more than just watch, Skap Karya offers hands-on workshops and masterclasses, while Skap Bicara provides a space for deep dives and discussions with industry leaders.
The atmosphere is rounded out by the vibrant Skap Market, filled with local crafts and traditional food, and the nostalgic charm of Skap Layar, which brings the "Wayang Pacak" outdoor cinema experience to life with screenings of local films.
This festival is a strategic bridge, supported by partners like KL Festival and Think City, aimed at making the arts a natural part of daily life.
It is also a day of opportunity. For aspiring students, Skap Legasi hosts admissions interviews and talent auditions, offering a direct path into the nation’s premier institution for arts and heritage.
Whether you are joining the youth-led Art Volunteers in their mission to elevate culture or simply bringing your family for a day of discovery, ASWARA Artskap 2026 is an invitation to witness how tradition and innovation breathe together in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
