SHAH ALAM – The earlier decision to accept the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) as a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN) is now considered null and void, following the absence of confirmation from the party regarding its entry into the coalition.
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the matter was decided during the PN Supreme Council Meeting held on Saturday.
“To date, MIC has yet to provide a final decision regarding its membership in PN, which was approved on Dec 9 2025, despite several requests for confirmation.
“Given the lack of confirmation, as well as MIC’s official statement that it had never submitted a formal application to join PN, it is hereby determined that the earlier decision to accept MIC as a PN component party is no longer relevant and is therefore void,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
In March, it was reported that MIC had not finalised any decision to join PN.
In a related development, Takiyuddin said the coalition was prepared to face the next general election with its existing internal structure and support, including its experience both in and out of government before and after the 15th Malaysian General Election (GE15).
He added that PN remained open to exploring electoral cooperation or forming an electoral pact with any party or group that shares similar principles and vision, including those interested in becoming strategic partners without formally joining the coalition.
As such, a special committee comprising representatives from PN component parties will be established to detail the terms and conditions of such political cooperation.
“This approach is seen as more suited to the current political landscape, while also supporting constructive political collaboration for national stability and the well-being of the people, who are increasingly under pressure without clear solutions.
“It also opens the door for all parties to participate more meaningfully and constructively in the country’s political process through a formal, mature and orderly national political cooperation framework,” he added.
