PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman has mandated all personnel within the agency to declare or update their assets within one month of an upcoming official notice.

He stated that the directive is an initial step under his leadership to strengthen organizational integrity and rebuild public trust in the MACC as an independent, professional, and fair institution.

"To spearhead efforts in building and assuring public confidence, I instruct all MACC officers to undergo the asset declaration process within one month from the date the forthcoming notice is issued.

"To lead this aspiration, I will personally initiate the asset declaration process, Insya-Allah (God willing)," he said during his inaugural address at the MACC Monthly Assembly here on Monday.

Abd Halim also emphasized that under his leadership, the MACC will not bow to pressure from any party, including public pressure, media sentiment, or being used as a tool for political interests.

"Justice and the rule of law, without exception and without compromise, are what we will uphold. Integrity is not merely a slogan or a pledged oath; it must be translated through decisions reached in confidentiality and investigations pursued without fear," he said.

He further reminded MACC personnel not to tarnish the organization's image by engaging in misconduct, warning against becoming like the Malay proverbs "kelapa yang ditebuk tupai" (an insider destroying from within) or "setitik nila yang merosakkan susu sebelanga" (a drop of indigo ruining a whole pot of milk).

Additionally, he stressed that MACC staff must anchor themselves on two core traits: capability and trustworthiness, as outlined in Surah Al-Qasas of the Quran.

Abd Halim explained that capability refers to efficiency and expertise in executing duties, while trustworthiness reflects the honesty that serves as the backbone of public service.

"The combination of these two traits will ensure that the MACC continues to be respected as the nation's primary bastion of integrity," he said.

Touching on the organization's work culture, Abd Halim reminded MACC personnel to avoid arrogance and ego while carrying out their duties, noting that their every action is constantly observed and evaluated by the public.

He reiterated that justice is non-negotiable, and true integrity is often tested through one's ability to reject vested interference or influence. — Bernama
