KOTA BHARU – Kelantan Pas Youth has claimed that former private secretary to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad, has failed to grasp the major political signals currently unfolding within the opposition bloc.
Its chief Mohd Firdaus Mohamed Nawi said the announcement of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as opposition leader was not merely a routine declaration, but carried a broader political message regarding party positioning within the opposition.
“The Pas president’s announcement naming Hamzah as opposition leader during the Reset convention was not just an ordinary announcement, but a ‘knockout blow’ to Bersatu itself.
“It clearly signals that Pas remains the dominant force shaping the direction of the opposition, while Bersatu is increasingly losing value and influence,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Previously, Marzuki was reported to have claimed that Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang was acting like a ‘supreme leader’ within Perikatan Nasional (PN) following two key decisions announced on Saturday.
The announcements involved Hamzah’s reappointment as opposition leader and the use of the PN logo by Hamzah’s party, Parti Wawasan Negara, in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
Marzuki alleged that the decisions were not made through a PN Supreme Council meeting.
Firdaus added that some Bersatu leaders now appear more inclined to attack Pas and its president rather than strengthen ties within the opposition bloc.
“They expected that when relations between Pas and Bersatu began to crack, Pas would weaken. But in reality, Pas continues to move forward on its own strength,” he said.
Commenting on the presence of several PN component party leaders at the Reset convention on Saturday, he said it showed that Pas still holds appeal among coalition partners.
“They failed to understand the significance of three out of four PN component parties being present at the Reset stage.
“The Gerakan president was there and the MIPP president was also present. This shows who still has the influence and who is increasingly being sidelined.
“I am not sure whether this close aide to Muhyiddin has failed to read the winds of political change or is still unable to accept the reality that his party is fading due to the attitude of many of its leaders who are too caught up in their own political games without recognising grassroots realities,” he added.
