SHAH ALAM – Pas has directed all its party machinery not to assist campaign operations in state seats being contested by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the Johor State Election.
Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said, however, that Pas machinery would continue to operate in seats contested by other Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties.
"Pas machinery in divisions and state seats contested by Bersatu in Johor polls are directed to work in seats contested by Pas and other PN component parties," he said in a Facebook posting on Saturday.
Early voting for PRN Johor is on 7 July and polling day is on 11 July, following the dissolution of the state assembly on 1 June.
Earlier, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, commenting on the relationship with Bersatu, said the standoff had been resolved and the party was maintaining its earlier decision to call off cooperation.
On the party's targets in Johor, Hadi said the party aimed to become part of the opposition bloc and serve as an adviser to the government.
He said the decision to field candidates in eleven state seats was also made based on careful assessment of seats with a high chance of winning, including in the Maharani area.
Previously, PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the number of seats contested by Pas in this PRN Johor had been reduced to eleven, compared with fifteen in the previous state election.
He said the reduction in the number of seats contested by Pas was not an issue, as the decision was made based on current considerations and the best strategy for facing the election.
