SHAH ALAM – Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the truth has finally been proven, adding that a letter of demand (LOD) against an individual who allegedly defamed him over the Tabung Haji (TH) issue has been successfully served.
He also said a RM5 million lawsuit would be filed against the individuals involved.
Asraf said the legal action was taken after he claimed that the truth surrounding the issue had been established.
"Alhamdulillah, the truth has been proven. A RM5 million lawsuit awaits. The LOD has successfully been served on the defamer.
"My promise is, Insya Allah, every cent of the compensation will be donated to Yayasan Pelajaran Mara for the benefit of underprivileged students," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
It was reported on Thursday that the crisis affecting TH stemmed from weaknesses in governance and management rather than abuse of power.
The findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH's management and operations from 2014 to 2020 stated that the various problems were the result of a combination of factors.
According to the report, these included unsustainable hibah payments, high-risk investment decisions, inappropriate accounting practices and weaknesses in the governance system.
Asyraf had previously instructed his lawyers to serve an LOD on two individuals he accused of defaming him over the TH board issue.
The LOD was served through Tetuan Adnan Sharida and Associates.
The individuals were Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) National Leadership Council member Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh and social media account owner Abied Abdullah, also known as Habin Faisal Mohamed.
This followed posts made and circulated by Ismail and Abied which were allegedly insulting and defamatory towards Asyraf over his role in the Tabung Haji issue.
