KUALA LUMPUR – Police have yet to receive an official order confirming that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's Langgak Duta residence will be used for his house arrest.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the Malaysian Prisons Department had asked police to assess the security aspects of the residence as part of a coordination meeting between the two agencies.

“The police assessed the security aspects outside the residence, while the Malaysian Prisons Department is responsible for the detention aspects if house arrest is implemented at the residence,” he said at a press conference here on Monday.

He said the decision on whether the residence would be used for Najib's house arrest had yet to be finalised as police had not received the official order.

Anuar also dismissed claims that security around the residence would be tightened through the installation of iron fencing or wire fencing.

“There is no such tight security. The security is as usual. There is no iron fencing as has been reported, that is just a rumour,” he added.

The development follows Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar's statement that standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Najib's house arrest would cover matters including visits, security and monitoring of his movements once the official letter on the matter had been received.

On Friday, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim consented to a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine.

The decision was made at the 64th Meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara.

The Malaysian Prisons Department has since assessed the Langgak Duta residence as preparations for the implementation of the house arrest order continue.

The former Pekan MP, has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, following his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
