That relaxed approach also extends to the food, where the menu offers plenty of choices for different tastes and occasions.

At the heart of the establishment is a menu that does not restrict itself to one particular culinary tradition.

Malaysian favourites sit alongside Western classics and dishes influenced by different parts of the world, reflecting Nadal's middle-eastern and European heritage as well as his longstanding curiosity about food and his years spent exploring Malaysian flavours.

Pizza lovers can also choose from several varieties, including the Carne Pizza, featuring generous meat toppings, melted cheese and a crisp yet tender crust.

The result is a menu that feels familiar while still offering something different, with choices ranging from nasi kerabu and curry laksa to sandwiches, burgers, pizza and Middle Eastern-inspired dishes.

For those looking for a taste of Malaysia, the Nasi Kerabu with Skewers is a hearty option, pairing fragrant blue-hued rice with traditional accompaniments and savoury grilled skewers.

The Curry Laksa offers another familiar Malaysian favourite, with a rich and aromatic broth complemented by noodles and accompanying ingredients.

Meanwhile, diners looking beyond Malaysian cuisine can try the Lahmajun, a Middle Eastern-inspired flatbread topped with minced beef and lamb seasoned with spices. The combination creates a savoury and aromatic dish that is ideal for sharing or enjoying individually.

Their Western offerings are equally appealing, particularly for those looking for familiar comfort food.

The Reuben Salt Beef Sandwich is packed with tender, flavourful salt beef and classic Reuben-style accompaniments, while the Cheeseburger delivers the familiar combination of a savoury beef patty, soft bun and beautifully melted cheese.

Pizza lovers can also choose from several varieties, including the Carne Pizza, featuring generous meat toppings, melted cheese and a crisp yet tender crust.

These dishes reflect the philosophy behind the place — food does not necessarily have to stay within one culinary category. Malaysian flavours, international influences and familiar comfort food can all sit comfortably on the same menu.

Breakfast is another highlight, particularly for diners who enjoy variety.

They also offer a five-sides selection that allows guests to mix and match their preferred choices. Among the selections are sourdough, hummus, Turkish egg çilbir, a mini smoothie bowl and tabbouleh.

The combination gives diners different textures and flavours in one meal, from freshly served sourdough and creamy hummus to the distinctive Turkish egg çilbir, refreshing smoothie bowl and herbaceous tabbouleh.

It is an appealing option for those who prefer a breakfast that offers a little bit of everything rather than being limited to a single dish.

The dining experience here is not complete without something sweet.

The Pecan Pie offers a satisfying combination of sweet and nutty flavours, while the Apple Crumble Tart brings together baked apples and a comforting crumbly topping.

Both are ideal for ending a meal on a sweet note, particularly when paired with coffee and good conversation in the restaurant's relaxed setting.

A culinary journey built on curiosity

The story behind Bread & Bakar is rooted in Nadal's long-standing passion for food.

A trained lawyer who later worked in corporate finance at Morgan Stanley in London, Nadal eventually left the corporate world to pursue his interest in F&B. His earlier experiences included working in a ski resort kitchen in Whistler, Canada, before going on to establish Patty & Pie and later Crust.

His appreciation for Malaysian cuisine developed over the years, during which he explored local favourites including nasi tumpang, laksam, laksa Nyonya and nasi kerabu.

That culinary curiosity continues to influence Bread & Bakar, where Malaysian flavours are presented alongside international comfort food rather than being confined to a single style.

Shahreen Bux has been part of that food-business journey and is a key partner behind the current venture, while Mils contributes her professional and organisational experience to the business.

Together, the partners have created a restaurant that is less about following a particular formula and more about bringing good food, different influences and a welcoming environment together under one roof.

It can be a place for a hearty Malaysian meal, a casual breakfast, a satisfying sandwich, a cheeseburger, pizza with friends, a Middle Eastern-inspired dish or simply dessert and coffee after a day in Mont Kiara.

With its warm neighbourhood ambience and broad menu that moves comfortably between Malaysian favourites and international comfort food, Bread & Bakar offers an approachable dining experience for families, friends and food lovers looking to discover something different.
