MELAKA – Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau claims that the suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN) by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) is a Pakatan Harapan (PH) agenda ahead of the Melaka state election.
He said the suspension was issued on Sept 23, the same date the Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved.
"As we know, the Melaka State Assembly was dissolved on Sept 23 but I would like to remind everyone that on Sept 23, PN was also suspended.
"Why was PN suspended only now? This is a malicious intent. This is a political decision, this is indeed PH's agenda," he said during his speech at the PN candidate announcement event for the Melaka state election here, last night.
He said he was not surprised by the move as he had fully anticipated it.
He also alleged that it was aimed at ensuring Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim could remain as Prime Minister for a second term.
"Many media members asked me whether I was surprised upon receiving the news that PN had been suspended.
"I said I wasn't surprised. This was well within our expectations. Not because we are clever, but for your information, during the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Congress in Melaka on Aug 16, one of their agendas was how to keep Anwar as Prime Minister for a second term," he said.
Meanwhile at the event, a candidate from the party, Datuk Seri Michael Gan Peng Lam was announced to be contesting the Ayer Keroh state seat.
